*As our Box Office is seasonal, tickets are not available via The Cameo Cinema’s website or at the Kiosk, where you may normally buy a ticket for a film at the venue.
How much are tickets for the Edinburgh International Film Festival?
We have a number of ticket types available for the festival.

Our Spotlight tickets are available for Opening and Closing Night, and also for screenings at the Cameo, where there may be introductions or Q&As with actors and directors who are in attendance.

Pay what you can tickets are available for screenings across the festival. Our partner Box Offices at EdFringe and Assembly Festival list these tickets under concessions.
What are your concessions?
In 2024, our concessions include EH postcode area residents, giving people across the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midothian, West Lothian and the north of the Scottish Borders even more of an opportunity to experience cinema on their doorstep.
In line with our partners across EdFringe and Assembly Festival, our concessions also support:
- Arts workers, filmmakers, and EIFF-accredited Industry and Press passholders.
- D/deaf and Disabled people.
- People in receipt of benefits.
- Students.
- Under 18s.
Proof of concession may be requested for films which have a guided age rating/BBFC certificate of 15 or 18. We also list content warnings (CW) in our guide, and on our web listings.
Do you offer any free tickets?
Edinburgh International Film Festival has free tickets available for selected screenings through EdFringe’s Community Ticketing Initiative CTI).
The CTI provides free Fringe tickets for people in and around Edinburgh who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend, with tickets generously donated by Fringe artists and companies. It was previously known as the Children and Young People (CYP) ticketing scheme, and expanded in 2023 to allow eligible children and adults to take part.
CTI is run by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council and EVOC, an Edinburgh-based umbrella organisation for third-sector organisations. Tickets are distributed through social, family or youth workers in the council or through local community organisations and charities.

Do you offer any discounts?
Discounts may be available on selected screenings – sign up to our newsletter to be among the first to know about any offers.
We cannot apply discounts across multiple transactions.
Fringe Friends 2For1 offers and Half Price Hut offers do not apply to tickets at Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Do you offer a group discount?
When booking through Edinburgh International Film Festival, EdFringe and Assembly Festival, a 10% discount is available when booking 10 tickets or more to one screening.
We cannot apply this discount across multiple transactions.
Do you offer an access ticket service?
The EdFringe Fringe Box Office has staff in place specifically for access enquiries and ticket bookings. This service exists to assist anyone with an access requirement to make the most of what Edinburgh International Film Festival and EdFringe has to offer.

The access tickets service is available to anyone who:
- Would like to book specific accessibility services, for example, a hearing loop, or seating in relation to the location of a BSL interpreter.
- Requires specific accessibility information for each venue.
- Requires extra assistance when at a venue, including avoiding waiting in queues and busy environments.
- Has specific seating requirements.
- Is a wheelchair user.
- Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance.

EdFringe offers accessible show listings across its programme, with information on performances that are audio-described, BSL interpreted, relaxed or offer touch tours.
Why can’t I choose where I sit?
Our venues operate general admission seating, which means that seats are not pre-assigned in advance.
Instead, they are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis as you enter the space.
Therefore, it is a good idea to arrive early if you would like to choose the seats that best suit you and your party, unless you are booking via the access ticket service.
Do you allow babes-in-arms?
We allow babes in arms for babies and children aged 1 and under, in-line with many independent cinemas across the UK. Many of the films in our programme are rated as suitable for ages 15 or 18 and above, and at times, the visual and audio may be intensive.
Space for buggies is limited, however baby changing facilities are available at the Cameo Cinema, at Summerhall, and in 50 George Square.
Why is there a ticketing fee when I book?
In-line with our partners across EdFringe and Assembly Festival, a £1.25 booking fee will automatically be applied per ticket you book, up to a maximum of £5 per transaction.
This contributes towards the charitable activities of Edinburgh International Film Festival. When booking through EdFringe, this supports the charitable activities of Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society and helps support the artists, venues and creatives that make the Fringe happen every year.
Fees apply when booking edfringe.com, assemblyfestival.com, through the EdFringe app, or in-person counter sales at any EdFringe Box Offices (EIFF venues: Cameo, Summerhall, Inspace).
Ticket fees do not apply when booked over the counter at Assembly Festival Box Offices (EIFF venue: 50 George Square).
How will I get my tickets?
All Edinburgh International Film Festival tickets are e-ticketed, so there’s no need to collect physical tickets. This also applies when booking through EdFringe and Assembly Festival.
Booking through Edinburgh International Film Festival
If you’ve booked through the Edinburgh International Film Festival website, you’ll receive an e-ticket via email containing a QR code. You will find options to download your e-ticket to Apple and Google Wallet in your e-ticket. You can also find your QR codes in the ‘My Tickets’ section of your account on our website.
If you’ve booked tickets for multiple shows in a single transaction, this QR code will be the ticket for every show in that transaction. You will need to show the QR code on arrival at your venue(s); you can do this on your phone or tablet or print it if required. You can split this QR code for each ticket booked in the transaction by using the Apple or Google Wallet feature.
If you’ve bought tickets on behalf of others, we recommend that you arrive at the venue with the rest of your party.

Booking through Assembly Festival
The below guidance is in-line with Assembly Festival’s ticketing FAQs
If you book through Assembly Festival website you will receive a confirmation email containing a QR code – this is your ticket.
If you’ve booked tickets for multiple shows in a single transaction, this QR code will be the ticket for every show in that transaction. You will need to show the QR code on arrival at your venue(s); you can do this on your phone or tablet, or print it if required.
If you won’t be arriving at the venue at the same time as the rest of your party, you should forward your e-ticket to everyone attending. They’ll be able to use the same barcode to gain entry. Please ensure you let our Front of House Team know how many tickets you would like to validate when you arrive.
What is I can’t use e-tickets?
If you don’t have access to a mobile device/email / printer, or if e-ticketing presents another access issue for you, please get in touch with Assembly Festival’s customer service team by calling or emailing Assembly Festival and an alternative can be arranged.

How do I add my e-ticket to the Apple or Google Wallet?
When booking through edfilmfest.org and edfringe.com, you will be able to add e-tickets to your Apple or Google Wallet.
In your e-ticket you will find an Apple and Google Wallet link for each performance booked. When viewing your e-ticket on a suitable mobile device, just click the relevant option and it will load the e-ticket to your wallet.
If you do not have the Apple and Google Wallet icons in your e-ticket then please reply to the confirmation email and our Customer Service team will assist you.
If your ticket is refunded due to a show cancellation it will still appear in your wallet, therefore you will need to delete it yourself.
Can I pass on my e-ticket to a friend?
Yes, you can share a QR code using Apple and Google Wallet. This will create a QR code per ticket rather than the QR code per transaction in the e-ticket. Once the tickets are added to your wallet, open the wallet on your mobile device and follow the share options. Please note, you can only share e-tickets to and from the same device type (ie Apple to Apple).
We would recommend using the standard SMS to share the QR code, as the design of the message created by Apple and Google Wallet is clearer using this format.
Once you have shared the ticket, we would recommend deleting the ticket from your own wallet to avoid confusion when getting tickets scanned.
What happens if I can no longer attend a film?
You are more than welcome to pass your tickets on to friends or family by simply forwarding your booking confirmation email containing your tickets. If you can no longer attend, box offices at EdFringe and Assembly festival will do their best to exchange your tickets for a more suitable screening time.
I’m going to arrive late, is that okay?
The times we advertise are the start times of films or events – there are no trailers ahead of our screenings. Doors will open 15 minutes before the advertised start time.
It is at the discretion of our venue staff to allow late admissions to screenings. No refunds will be granted for refusal of entry to an event due to late arrival on the part of the customer.
Edinburgh can be particularly busy during August, and this affects travel times – even on foot – so please make sure you have enough time to get to a screening. You should also consider things like:
- Whether you’d like to visit the bar or use the toilet before entering your show.
- Securing preferred seats (in which case you’ll probably want to join the queue early)
Can I get a refund?
In-line with the terms and conditions of our ticketing partners at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Assembly Festival, tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable unless a show has been cancelled. If this happens, you will be notified and reimbursed the price of the tickets as soon as possible.
If the particulars of the show change in a manner which results in you being unable or unwilling to attend, in which case you will be reimbursed the price of the tickets as soon as possible.
